There are some lovely woods close to my home in the Peak District and sometimes if I'm lucky when I go walking there I encounter a deer in the distance. These beautiful animals roam freely through the land and forests and are quite wary of human presence, so it's always a wonderful privilege to have a fleeting glimpse. This will be momentary and the deer will stand still for a short time then wanders away into the trees.
An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. I paint some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife, creating a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides, a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang.
