About Philippe Halsman
Philippe Halsman first studied electrical engineering in Dresden, Germany, before moving to Paris at the age of 25. There he studied at the Sorbonne and devoted his life to the photographic arts. He became famous as a portrait and fashion photographer and was one of the lead photographers for Life Magazine for several decades. in 1945, he was elected President of the American Society of Magazine Photographers by his peers. His smile-inducing ‘Jump’ series featuring celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Richard Nixon and Salvador Dali received international recognition.
