About Gill Bustamante

I paint large semi-abstract oils that seek to capture, not just the visual details of a location, but its scents, sounds, and spiritual energy. They are inspired by encounters with landscapes, wildlife and birds, particularly the ancient landscapes of England.

My paintings are completely unique in style.

About this Artwork

Seaford Seascape
Seaford Seascape is a 30x30x1.5 inches oil on canvas painting of the view from a cliff on the Sussex coast near Seaford. Two kittiwake seagulls fly across the sea and they are significant as this area is where they nest and are protected. The cliffs on the left are painted on thick textured paint to give the feeling of the chalk they are made of and in the background, in the distance, you can just see the Belle Tout lighthouse. The sea below the cliff is shallow and reflects the colours of the blue and turquoise sky and the coloured sand and rocks below it. The painting was inspired by the first walk I took out during the covid lockdown in March 2020. It was deserted (not sure why as exercise was allowed) and the South Downs path which you can see winding across the top of the cliffs was empty. It was a beautiful clear sunny day and I was torn between love having it all to myself and wishing others were also there to walk it. I wanted a record of this day and this is it.
