About Gill Bustamante

I paint large semi-abstract oils that seek to capture, not just the visual details of a location, but its scents, sounds, and spiritual energy. They are inspired by encounters with landscapes, wildlife and birds, particularly the ancient landscapes of England.

My paintings are completely unique in style.

About this Artwork

Making an Appearance is a large oil painting in the semi-abstract art-nouveau style of a peacock appearing in a bluebell wood. It was inspired by the wonderful bluebell performance we had in spring 2021 which never fails to make everyone feel happier. The edges of the painting are blurred so that your eye moves into the central clearing and there are multi-layers that suggest light through trees. A pink blossom tree is on the left and a peacock is on the right and is transparent as he is not fully formed. It is a magical painting as befits a bluebell wood in full bloom. This particular bluebell wood glade is near Cowden in Kent. I painted it with the colours and atmosphere in mind rather than botanical details and am happy that I can still smell the scent of the flowers and the blossom trees and hear the birds in the wood singing when I look at it. The peacock has added afterwards as I did hear a peacock in one of the old mansion house properties around Cowden. I wished he could be in the trees among the bluebells as his blue and green pearlescent feathers would have been perfect. This is him making an appearance courtesy of artistic licence. It is 40x40x1.5inches, white edges, ready to hang. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb0-jWmwZ5s
