The Hares Summer Song is a large, vibrantly coloured, semi-abstract landscape painting of a hare among red poppies with a pale summer moon above her. It is 36 x 36 x 1.5 inches. The painting was inspired by sightings of hares in the meadows near the South Downs one June. There is a magical aspect to hares, and there is a lot of folklore surrounding them, which is why, when I spotted one, I felt like I was in a fairy story. Especially as she sat in a wildflower meadow with a pale moon above. I believe there is magic in nature, and there is magic in the ancient landscapes of England, which is something I try to capture when I paint based on a memory of somewhere. The style is semi-abstract Art Nouveau and was made by building glazes and texture which reflect different colours throughout the day. Painted on deep-edge canvas, edges white, ready to hang, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
