About this photograph

A striking coastal scene photographed on Armona Island in Portugal’s Algarve, where a yellow maritime marker stands among pale sand dunes beneath an expansive turquoise-blue sky. A simple wooden boardwalk curves through the dunes, leading the eye toward the structure and giving the composition a quiet sense of movement and isolation.

I photographed this scene on Ilha da Armona and later edited the image to emphasize the warm sandy tones, muted yellow of the coastal marker, and clear blue sky. The restrained colour palette and generous negative space give the photograph a clean, almost minimalist quality while preserving the distinctive atmosphere of Portugal’s barrier islands.

Armona Island lies within the Ria Formosa Natural Park near Olhão in the eastern Algarve and is known for its sandy paths, dunes, boardwalks, Atlantic beaches, and relaxed island landscape. This fine art Portugal photograph combines Algarve travel photography, Armona Island scenery, coastal dunes, maritime details, Portuguese beach landscapes, wooden boardwalks, blue sky, and minimalist coastal photography.

The soft neutral sand and saturated blue backdrop make this image particularly suited to modern coastal interiors, beach houses, minimalist spaces, Mediterranean-inspired decor, and collections of Portuguese travel photography. It captures a quieter side of the Algarve, away from busy resorts, where simple man-made structures become part of the open coastal landscape.
