About Nicholas Robertson

Born in Gloucester, UK.

I suspect, like most figurative artists, I find drawing and painting the human form wholly embedded in human behaviour.

Artwork

About this artwork

Novus Belator, a loose Latin translation of 'New Warriors'. Two javelin throwers in Adidas tracksuits striking a pose reminiscent of Italian Renaissance battle murals. "Battle of San Romano" by Paolo Uccello is an example.

Painted in traditional oil paint on a stretched canvas. The flesh areas are loose oil washes with opaque pigment for the tracksuits etc. The work has been finished with protective varnish. This not only protects the painting but also has a unifying effect. The work only needs framing to make it ready to hang, or it can be hung frameless.
