About Hirotaka Suzuki

Perhaps I am painting the cruelty of contemporary life because it is in opposition to my naïve outlook.

In contrast to the physical features of my paintings, I think I am visualising my feeling of anxiety in contemporary life.

About this artwork

I created this series of paintings dedicated to "Tomorrow's Joe (Ashita no Joe)", which is one of the most legendary and influential comics/animation in Japan. This was a boxing story. A punk orphan, Joe Yabuki became a contender for the world championship. Though the original comic ran from 1968 to 1973, lots of people still remember and even adore him. I made this series of paintings with the utmost respect for Joe Yabuki.
