About Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

Mr Aleksandr Dubrovskyy was born in 1949 in Oryneno, Khmelnytsky Oblast, Ukraine.
He started painting early. Painting was his most favoured occupation, beyond all usual boyish interests and activities.
At seven he was admitted to the art school for children in Yenakiieve; at 16, Aleksandr entered Kharkiv College of Art (1965).

In 1969, after graduating from the College of Art, he travelled a lot and worked assiduously on portrait and landscape painting.
His continuing work at the academic villa in Sednyov offered Aleksandr a happy and unique opportunity to work together with, and learn from, such eminent painters as Konstantyn Lomykin, Fedor Zakharov, Nikolay Glushchenko, Viktor Shatalin, and Tatyana Yablonskaya. They profoundly influenced his artistic formation. Sednyov... this marvellous nook of Ukraine became the artist’s creative workshop.

About this artwork

Bali - Jimbaran Bay

Part of Aleksandr Dubrovskyy's Bali Series, painted during the artist's extended creative period on the island in 2021.

Unlike the dramatic cliffs and powerful surf of Bali's southern coast, Jimbaran Bay reveals a quieter and more intimate side of the island. Here, gentle waves roll onto the sandy shore beneath tropical greenery, while fishermen's boats appear on the horizon and soft ocean light fills the scene with calmness and harmony.

Painted from direct observation, the work captures the atmosphere of Bali before sunset, when the sea becomes silver-grey and the shoreline seems suspended between sky and water. The expressive brushwork and subtle colour transitions create a feeling of movement, humidity, warm air, and the rhythm of the ocean.

This painting belongs to a distinctive body of works created during Dubrovskyy's Bali period, a series highly valued by collectors for its authenticity, plein air character, and emotional connection to one of the world's most celebrated tropical destinations.

More than a landscape, Jimbaran Bay is an invitation to pause, breathe, and experience the peaceful beauty of Bali's coastline.
