Stephen Whatcott
About
Stephen Whatcott is a contemporary artist based in the Cotswolds, UK, producing paintings which explore the relationship between form and space with restraint.
With roots based in drawing, his work tends to utilise line and form. These largely monochrome paintings focus on reduction, using isolated shapes, interruptions and asymmetries to establish tension and structure within the picture plane.
In 2015 Whatcott won the Painting category of the Secret Art Prize open art competition and in 2018 was shortlisted for the Rise Art Prize. His work has since been featured on the cover of the London Magazine, London’s oldest literary magazine, and exhibited in the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.
Whatcott is represented by several galleries across the UK, including Rise Art in London and Art Pistol in Glasgow. His work is held in private collections worldwide.Awards
