Tomás Castaño was born in Santander (Spain) in 1953. An internationally recognised, self-taught artist, he has forged himself through determination and enthusiasm, opting for a realistic pictorial style, which he approaches by capturing constructed, well-drawn compositions, paying attention to composition and drawing. He controls perspective and also the faculties that have led him to achieve a status as a landscape designer characterised by his architectural work.
His work is characterised by a serene and poetic realism, which translates the artist's delight in the expression of traditional streets, buildings and façades. His paintings capture the magic of ancient aesthetics and transmit all the warmth and humanisation of environments not transformed by current life.
He has shown his work in group exhibitions in several countries such as the United States, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Holland, France, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and in numerous individual and group exhibitions in Spanish territory. He represented Cantabria at the Florence Biennale in the 2005 edition. His work is recognised for the peculiar style and atmosphere that he creates in the finishing of his series of ancient taverns.
His work appears in collections in Spain, France, Australia, Dubai (UAE), Canada, Portugal, Greece, Taiwan, India, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States and Costa Rica.
