About Pol Ledent
"Colour, above all — and perhaps more than drawing — is a liberation" - Henri Matisse
Pol Ledent is a Belgian painter born in 1952 in Houyet, Belgium. Self-taught, he began painting in 1989, first exploring watercolour before turning to oil painting, which he considers better suited to his expressive approach. Although he took a few drawing classes at the Académie de Dinant, he has mainly developed independently, developing a unique style that he applies to his representations of landscapes, still lifes, nude portraits, and more recently to abstraction.
Pol Ledent’s works are distinguished by the use of vivid colours and a fluid gestural style, marked by broad, dynamic brushstrokes. Yellow, blue and other vibrant hues often dominate his canvases, creating striking contrasts and a vibrant atmosphere. His contemporary landscapes, inspired by the Belgian countryside, are particularly notable, as are his nudes, which reflect great sensuality and a certain visual poetry.
