This artwork is a striking mixed-media piece created with recycled magazine pages and acrylic paint.
At its core, a large radiant circle dominates the composition, resembling a glowing sun. The circle is painted in layers of warm yellows, oranges, and touches of red, creating a sense of heat, light, and movement. The vertical lines within the circle suggest rays of energy streaming downwards, enhancing the solar imagery.
Surrounding the circle, the background is built from tightly arranged strips of recycled magazine pages. These strips run vertically, producing a textured, striped frame filled with an array of colours—blues, reds, whites, blacks, and other tones from the printed materials. The contrast between the chaotic, fragmented magazine strips and the unified, luminous painted circle emphasises the central focus and adds depth to the composition.
The overall effect blends geometry, texture, and symbolism: the sun-like circle evokes power, vitality, and renewal, while the recycled materials connect the piece to sustainability and transformation. The title “Sol Invictus” (Latin for “Unconquered Sun”) suggests themes of endurance, resilience, and the eternal nature of light.
