About Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

Mr Aleksandr Dubrovskyy was born in 1949 in Oryneno, Khmelnytsky Oblast, Ukraine.
He started painting early. Painting was his most favoured occupation, beyond all usual boyish interests and activities.
At seven he was admitted to the art school for children in Yenakiieve; at 16, Aleksandr entered Kharkiv College of Art (1965).

In 1969, after graduating from the College of Art, he travelled a lot and worked assiduously on portrait and landscape painting.
His continuing work at the academic villa in Sednyov offered Aleksandr a happy and unique opportunity to work together with, and learn from, such eminent painters as Konstantyn Lomykin, Fedor Zakharov, Nikolay Glushchenko, Viktor Shatalin, and Tatyana Yablonskaya. They profoundly influenced his artistic formation. Sednyov... this marvellous nook of Ukraine became the artist’s creative workshop.

About this artwork

Part of Aleksandr Dubrovskyy's Bali Series, painted during the artist's creative period on the island in 2021. This painting captures a coastal viewpoint near Uluwatu, where tropical vegetation once descended towards a turquoise ocean filled with shifting reflections of light and colour. The scene was painted directly from nature during a period when Bali's southern coastline remained quieter and less developed.

What makes this work especially remarkable is that the landscape depicted here no longer exists in exactly the same form. In the years following its creation, parts of this coastline were altered by both natural geological processes and ongoing coastal development. As a result, the painting preserves a view that has become part of Bali's recent history.

For Dubrovskyy, the attraction of this location was not only its beauty but the extraordinary range of colours within the water itself. Emerald, turquoise, jade green, pale blue and silver reflections merge into a constantly changing surface shaped by sunlight, wind and ocean currents. Through expressive impressionist brushwork and rich impasto texture, the artist sought to capture this fleeting harmony of colour and atmosphere.

Today, Color of the Ocean serves both as a vibrant work of art and as a visual record of a unique moment in Bali's evolving landscape. It belongs to a limited group of paintings from the artist's Bali period that combine artistic interpretation with documentary value. Professionally packed and shipped with tracking.
