I photographed Almourol Castle from across the Tagus and later edited the image to emphasise the warm tones of the ancient stone, the rich greens of the island vegetation, the reflections in the river, and the depth of the cloud-filled sky. Almourol Castle, or Castelo de Almourol, occupies a small rocky island in the Tagus River and is one of Portugal’s most distinctive medieval castles.
