About Amanda Horvath
Amanda Horvath is a contemporary artist producing vibrant colourful and highly textured original paintings. Amanda attended Sheffield Hallam University, where she achieved a B A Hons (1st class) in fine art painting and printmaking. She subsequently lectured for a while and now practices full time as an artist from her studio in the Peak District where she lives with her husband.
"Painting is a response to the beautiful landscape around me, I attempt to capture the luminosity of light rays pouring through trees, the spirit of the forest and the quiet tranquillity of these peaceful places. Moved by the ethereal light filtering through leaves in woodlands and dramatic contrasting shadows. My inspiration begins with my walks through the beautiful Peak District where I live close to the natural world. I love every season each having its own beauty. I have a passion for expressing nature in beautiful colours, whilst imparting a meditative calm. This affinity with nature has grown from early childhood and my past experiences."
Working from observation of nature Amanda gathers visual information with a sketchbook or camera and often begins a canvas en plein air, finishing these preliminary pieces in her studio. Working expressively in acrylics or oils, often with a palette knife or other mark making techniques she applies layer upon layer until the painting reaches a natural conclusion, forming contemporary paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. Her paintings have found homes with private collectors worldwide.About the Product
This painting captures the gentle interplay of light and tone, evoking the soft silver glow of moonlight spilling over a crisp, snowy landscape. Through expressive, layered brushwork, I’ve created a dreamlike woodland glade, where delicate birch trees stand quietly beneath a romantic, rising moon. The stillness of the scene invites a sense of serene wonder and quiet contemplation, offering a calming presence to any space.
An original, one-of-a-kind piece, this work is painted with acrylics on deep-edged canvas. My process begins with careful observation, then in the studio, I work intuitively, starting with loose brushwork and gradually building rich texture using palette knife techniques. I draw inspiration from the optical mixing of the Impressionists as well as traditional methods of the old masters, including scumbling and glazing.
Each layer adds depth and emotion, and I refine the piece until it reaches a natural sense of completion. The result is a contemporary painting that sits between realism and abstraction. The painting continues around the canvas edges, it is signed on the front, and comes ready to hang, no framing required.
