April Explodes is a 30 x 30 x 1.5-inch oil painting that depicts the exuberance and joy of bluebell season in a springtime wood. The viewer is being led along a path, with dappled sunlight flickering across the path, trees and bluebells. At the end of the path, you can see the edge of the wood, which is so bright that you can see nothing beyond it. This is a fairy-tale wood, and anything could be there, hiding in the trees or in the clearing beyond. My intention in painting this was to try, as I do every year in April, to capture the beautiful colours and scents of a woodland in spring. The use of very fluid paint reflects how fast bluebell season goes, as the paint is distorting and merging into the scene, but still shows exactly what it is. It is semi-abstract, contemporary and very vibrantly coloured. Painted on deep-edge canvas with white edges; ready to hang, no frame needed, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
