Offered by Born in Tallinn, Estonia, on May 2nd, 1940, Nikita Knatz was a prolific and acclaimed Hollywood storyboard-artist, production illustrator and conceptual designer. His wide-ranging talents also delivered opportunities as an actor, second-unit director, production designer and associate producer.
Knatz was known for his impactful, evocative and kinetic storyboard artistry and often favoured mixed media renditions, which gave an immediacy and interactive quality to his work.
His storyboards for ‘Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story’ beautifully capture the restless, balletic and dynamic nature of Bruce Lee, who was electric in both movement and repose. Knatz’s storyboards proved to be an invaluable pre-visualization tool for director, Rob Cohen, and are coveted by fans of the film and of Bruce Lee, generally, as a cinematic icon and seminal master of the martial arts.
Nikita Knatz died in Century City, Los Angeles, on January 6th, 2010. His work, which includes a number of Oscar-winning movies, is highly prized by collectors. His Art Department credits include Spider-Man, Dragonheart, Batman Returns, Tango & Cash, Moonstruck, Predator, Escape from Alcatraz, Black Sunday, Le Mans and The Thomas Crown Affair.
