André De Dienes (1913-1985) came to the United States from Hungary in 1938. During his celebrated career, he worked for Vogue, Life and Esquire. He settled in California in 1944 and quickly made a speciality of plein-air photography of the female nude form. In addition to Marilyn, De Dienes also photographed Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Henry Fonda, Ingrid Bergman, Fred Astaire and Ronald Reagan.
About the Product
This stunning gelatin silver print of Marilyn Monroe wearing a white swimsuit measures 13 x 11 inches (33 cm x 27.9 cm) and is in very good condition.
The artist's stamp appears on the reverse side.
This photo was captured at Tobey Beach, off the South Shore of Long Island, New York, in 1949, when Marilyn, then known as Norma Jeane Mortenson, was only 23 years old. A storm had cleared the beach of bathers by early morning. When it had passed by mid-afternoon, Andre captured this remarkable photo of Marilyn on a deserted beach bathed in beautiful late-afternoon sunlight.
