About Visual Diversity
As a little girl, I was raised an only child by wealthy entrepreneurs who were too busy to notice me. That's how I quickly realized the love of writing, art, animals, and photography. A few of my favorite photographers include Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Philippe Halsman, Berenice Abbott, Mary Ellen Mark, Carol McKinney Highsmith, Irving Penn, Andrew Prokos, Sally Mann, Vivian Maier, Frederick H. Evans, and Andre Kertesz. Famous abstract artists Jackson Pollock and Agnes Bernice Martin are a couple of my ancestors as was Alfred Barr, one of the founders of the Modern Museum of Art. My mother is an award-winning wildlife artist. Although she is in her 80s, her art is currently on display in art galleries in the American Southwest. Some of my personal favorite artists include Ed Swarez, H.R. Gigerd, Jacek Yerka, Gediminas Pranckevicius, Guido Borelli da Caluso, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Kit King, Adele Sypesteyn, Carla McAfee, Gillian Lee Smith, Pauline Agnew, and Frida Kahlo.
About the Product
Naliaka is a Luhya name, meaning “born during the weeding season.” The Luhya consists of 19 distinct Bantu tribes without a common origin. They were politically united in the mid-twentieth century. This is part of my Black History month collection.
