About Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

Mr Aleksandr Dubrovskyy was born in 1949 in Oryneno, Khmelnytsky Oblast, Ukraine.
He started painting early. Painting was his most favoured occupation, beyond all usual boyish interests and activities.
At seven he was admitted to the art school for children in Yenakiieve; at 16, Aleksandr entered Kharkiv College of Art (1965).

In 1969, after graduating from the College of Art, he travelled a lot and worked assiduously on portrait and landscape painting.
His continuing work at the academic villa in Sednyov offered Aleksandr a happy and unique opportunity to work together with, and learn from, such eminent painters as Konstantyn Lomykin, Fedor Zakharov, Nikolay Glushchenko, Viktor Shatalin, and Tatyana Yablonskaya. They profoundly influenced his artistic formation. Sednyov... this marvellous nook of Ukraine became the artist’s creative workshop.

Artwork

About this artwork

I painted A Bouquet of Little Suns as a summer still life outdoors, with the mountains remaining visible beyond the table.

The bouquet was not meant to look carefully arranged. Yellow elecampane, blue, violet and pink wildflowers cross and overlap each other, and several stems lean well beyond the vase. I liked this slightly unruly shape because it still looked like a bouquet that had just been gathered.

The cut watermelon brought a completely different colour into the lower part of the painting. Its coral-red flesh stands against the yellow-green surroundings and the cooler blues of the flowers and distant mountains.

The painting is full of strong colour, but the colours come directly from a very simple summer scene: flowers, ripe fruit and the landscape behind them.

Original oil on canvas, 50 × 60 cm, 2022.
Shipping from Poland.
The painting can be shipped either rolled in a tube or stretched on stretcher bars, as agreed with the buyer.
