James Duffield Harding (1798-1863) was one of the most influential watercolour artist of his period. Not only for his paintings but his new ideas and books on these that were published. Harding is exhibited at the 'Tate Gallery'
The Tate's listing on Harding states: James Duffield Harding (1798 – 4 December 1863), was an English landscape painter, lithographer and author of drawing manuals. His use of tinted papers and opaque paints in watercolour proved influential.
This painting 'Returning From Mill' is one of his later works produced in 1850 and really illustrates his use of opaque paints. Hardings work is also displayed in galleries worldwide and their are many collectors of his work.
This painting measures 36 x 25 cm (framed 52 x 42 cm)
Although the painting is contained in a gilt frame this does have damage to the raised surface areas.
