Green Forest Calling is a 30 x 40 x 1.5-inch green painting of a path through a green forest in Sussex in springtime. It was painted after a walk I took near Hartfield in late May. The bluebells were still out and the trees were bright, lush green in every shade from yellow to gold to emerald green. This particular patch of forest has very tall trees but is well-spaced so it is very like walking through a cathedral with stained-glass green windows. The way out of the wood looked bright white, as a field of white cow parsley was just beyond it and that added to the magical quality of the walk. I am often nervous in woods and forests, as I get lost very easily and some of them have a scary atmosphere. This wood, though, is a favourite of mine as it is welcoming and it likes me. I imagine the spirits of this forest are kind ones. The painting is semi-abstract in style and is on wide-edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed, ready to hang on the wall.
