About Irina Wolfe

Irina Wolfe is a freelance photographer based in Millheim, USA, whose work is defined by a graphic designer’s eye and a sculptor’s sensibility. Her artistic foundation, built on illustration and graphic design, directly informs a photographic style centered on powerful composition. She is drawn to bold geometries, strong lines, and the deliberate use of contrast, negative space, and deep shadow.

Her journey began with a camera purchased out of an admiration for sculptural form, which evolved into a dedicated passion for the emotional clarity of black-and-white photography. This focus on tone and structure is occasionally punctuated by forays into color, often expressed through a minimalist lens—a practice that mirrors her pursuit of balance and simplicity beyond the frame.

About this Photograph

The water is Nusa Penida Island differs from all others I have ever seen in my life. When the ferry came to the harbour I looked down at it and found it moving in a strange way - as though not liquid, but jelly crystals of turquoise color were splashing over the concrete shore and dancing in the air changing the shape. I just couldn't believe it, because it was a slow dance so it was possible to differ the change of shapes and light coming through them. And I was sure it wasn't an illusion after the ocean waves trip. Later I found out that there was the purest water full of plankton, and that is also the reason why Devil Fish come to those waters to feed themselves. That is where the title comes from.
