About Ken Hong Leung (H. Leung)
Ken H Leung was born on May 14, 1933, in Guangzhou, China. Blessed with an artistic disposition from a very young age, he became a self-taught artist, putting his creative thoughts onto a canvas. By the time he was 16, he decided to move to Hong Kong to get involved in the city artistic community. His unique approach to his oil paintings, which focused on the majestic beauty of nature while highlighting a depth of field, got attention early on, which got his first paintings displayed in the Hong Kong Gallery in 1960.
It was in 1968 that he founded the Leung Gallery in Kowloon at the Marian Hotel Plaza. Over the next 10 years, his artworks got the admiration of art connoisseurs worldwide. However, it is the appeal that his artworks got on greetings, calendars, and art prints that made him a household name.
As his artworks began to evolve, and his way of putting scenic highlights on a beautiful fishing village or mountains got more admirers as time went by, Ken H Leungs artistic expression approached the desired level of perfection, leading to his artworks being displayed across the world, which gained him honors on an international scale. By the time he was 45 (in 1978), he had moved to San Francisco, one of the most artistic cities in the world, with his wife and four sons, two of whom - Thomas and Richard Leung, have evolved into amazing artists in their own right.
20 years later, in 1998, he became the representative of Lahaina Galleries, one of the US most renowned gallery chains, that exposed his works across different regions in the US. From the ethnic region of Maui to the coastal region of Hawaii, his impressionistic art got admiration in every place they were displayed, leading to thousands of originals and limited edition works being sold in over 30 years.
Ken H Leungs paintings focus on epitomizing a singular aspect at the forefront of a lush landscape. His work, House Above the Clouds, is the most honest example in this regard. The dreamy background that highlights distant mountains focuses on the vastness of the world, but the sharp strokes on the houses at the forefront accentuate a home that, even when among the clouds, has its majestic attributes. These elements form the foundation of his artworks, which now have different added elements to focus on light, moods, and landscapes so ethereal as if telling viewers to embrace the serenity.
Since 2009, his works can be found in the Leung Gallery in Shanghai, China. Now 90 years of age, Ken H Leung has the same desires as he always had: to voice his creativity only to Canvas and inspire people to imbue their hearts with a sense of contemplative repose.
