About Tomas Castaño Artist

Tomás Castaño was born in Santander (Spain) in 1953. An internationally recognised, self-taught artist, he has forged himself through determination and enthusiasm, opting for a realistic pictorial style, which he approaches by capturing constructed and well-drawn compositions. Concerned with composition and drawing, he controls perspective and also the skills that have led him to achieve a status as a landscape designer characterised by his architectural work.

His work is characterised by a serene and poetic realism, which translates the artist's delight in the expression of traditional streets, buildings and façades. His paintings capture the magic of ancient aesthetics and transmit all the warmth and humanisation of environments not transformed by current life.

About this artwork

A scene capturing a wave on the verge of breaking. What draws me to the sea is its mystery, its power, its beautiful and ever-changing face, and the fluidity—the sense of connection—you feel with all of this when you are in or near it. It offers us a chance to test our own strength. And the psychological pleasure of being in saltwater reduces stress; it gives you the opportunity to play, to exercise, to stretch... it is truly incomparable. The sea has fascinated humanity for as long as we can remember—after all, isn’t it the sound of its waves that we call to mind when we want to relax?
