About Amanda Horvath
Amanda Horvath is a contemporary artist producing vibrant colourful and highly textured original paintings. Amanda attended Sheffield Hallam University, where she achieved a B A Hons (1st class) in fine art painting and printmaking. She subsequently lectured for a while and now practices full time as an artist from her studio in the Peak District where she lives with her husband.
"Painting is a response to the beautiful landscape around me, I attempt to capture the luminosity of light rays pouring through trees, the spirit of the forest and the quiet tranquillity of these peaceful places. Moved by the ethereal light filtering through leaves in woodlands and dramatic contrasting shadows. My inspiration begins with my walks through the beautiful Peak District where I live close to the natural world. I love every season each having its own beauty. I have a passion for expressing nature in beautiful colours, whilst imparting a meditative calm. This affinity with nature has grown from early childhood and my past experiences."
Working from observation of nature Amanda gathers visual information with a sketchbook or camera and often begins a canvas en plein air, finishing these preliminary pieces in her studio. Working expressively in acrylics or oils, often with a palette knife or other mark making techniques she applies layer upon layer until the painting reaches a natural conclusion, forming contemporary paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. Her paintings have found homes with private collectors worldwide.About the Product
This painting captures the essence of an archetypal image deeply rooted in our collective imagination. The solitary tree, a timeless motif in myth, legend, and folklore stands as a symbol of strength, wisdom, and independence. Harnessing methods from impressionist techniques and a refined use of materials, I sought to evoke a sense of tranquillity, where soft light radiates gently from the distance.
As a representation of hope, beauty, and the natural world, the flourishing tree bridges earth and sky. Subtle blue hues, touches of gold, and delicate impressions of light suggest a tree in full leaf, surrounded by woodland flowers. Together, these elements create a tapestry of serenity and renewal, imbuing any space with a peaceful, dreamlike atmosphere.
This original, one-of-a-kind artwork has been painted with acrylics on a circular canvas. My process begins with direct observation, making sketches and taking photographs on location to use as references in the studio. From these studies, I work intuitively laying down initial layers with a brush, then building texture and depth through impasto techniques applied with a palette knife. I draw upon the optical mixing methods of the Impressionists, as well as traditional techniques such as scumbling and glazing used by the old masters.
I continue refining the painting until it reaches a natural conclusion. The finished work is a contemporary piece that exists between abstraction and realism. The image continues around the edges of the canvas and is signed along the side. It requires no frame and is ready to hang. For presentation purposes, the painting has been photographed against a white background.
