About Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

Mr Aleksandr Dubrovskyy was born in 1949 in Oryneno, Khmelnytsky Oblast, Ukraine.
He started painting early. The painting was his most favoured occupation, beyond all usual boyish interests and activities.
At 7 years he was admitted to the art school for children in Yenakiieve; at 16, Aleksandr entered Kharkiv College of Art (1965).

In 1969, graduating from the College of Art, he travels a lot and works assiduously on portrait and landscape painting.
His continuing work at the academic villa in Sednyov offered Aleksandr a happy and unique opportunity to work together with, and learn from, such eminent painters as Konstantyn Lomykin, Fedor Zakharov, Nikolay Glushchenko, Viktor Shatalin, and Tatyana Yablonskaya. They have profoundly influenced his artistic formation. Sednyov... this marvellous nook of Ukraine became the artist’s creative workshop.

About this Artwork

Wind from the South

There are places where the sea is not simply a landscape but a living presence. This painting captures one of those moments.

Bathed in brilliant southern light, the coastline glows with vibrant turquoise waters, sunlit rocks, and lush greenery descending toward the shore. The scene is filled with movement: waves gently washing over the stones, reflections dancing across the water, and warm sea air carrying the unmistakable scent of salt and sunshine.

Painted en plein air, this work preserves the artist's direct emotional response to the coast. Rather than describing the shoreline in detail, Aleksandr Dubrovskyy conveys the sensation of standing above the sea on a bright summer day, feeling the southern breeze and watching sunlight transform water into countless shades of emerald, sapphire, and turquoise.

Expressive palette knife work and textured impressionist brushstrokes give the painting remarkable vitality. Every surface shimmers with light, while the contrast between the rocky coastline and the transparent sea creates a sense of harmony, freedom, and escape.

Part of Dubrovskyy's celebrated marine landscapes, this original oil painting embodies the timeless attraction of the sea: its beauty, energy, and ability to awaken memories of travel, discovery, and endless horizons.

For collectors of coastal landscapes, impressionist seascapes, and luminous plein air paintings, this work offers a vivid and emotionally engaging vision of the southern coast.
