About Stefano Mazzolini

Stefano Mazzolini was born in Parma in 1968. At the age of nine, he was nominated for the "Design and City" award organised by the municipality of Parma. In 1989, he graduated as a Master of Art in pictorial decoration from the Paolo Toschi Institute in Parma. He then dedicated several years to the restoration and conservation of wall paintings. In 1990, he lived in London before moving to New York for a short period.

Mazzolini expresses his graphic style in a gestural and immediate way. Dynamic lines create controlled drops of acrylic on paper, with stains directed without preliminary drawings or fixed projects, replacing the brush with ampoules and spatulas. Intriguing portraits, fairy-tale settings and mythological animals emerge from this controlled chaos. He also creates silhouettes of androgynous subjects, using paper collage to assemble layered faces that remain hidden and minimal.

About this artwork

Stefano Mazzolini's Marty is an abstract acrylic painting dominated by organic forms and fluid gestures. Two dark silhouettes emerge from an ethereal grey ground, one compact in the upper left and another, more complex, form on the right, touched with beige. Vertical drips create depth and movement, sharpening the contrast between dense graphic contours and translucent passages.
