About this artwork

This painting evokes the essence of an archetypal image deeply rooted in our collective imagination. The solitary tree, a timeless symbol found in myths, legends, and folklore, embodies strength, wisdom, and independence. Inspired by impressionist techniques and a delicate handling of materials, I sought to capture a scene of tranquillity, light radiating softly from the distance.

As a symbol of hope, beauty, and the natural world, the flourishing tree bridges earth and sky. Gentle green tones, touches of pink, and subtle expressions of light suggest a tree in full leaf surrounded by forest flowers. The work forms a tapestry of serenity and renewal, infusing any space with a peaceful, dreamlike energy.

An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high-quality acrylic paints on a circular canvas. I begin with observation of the place, making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings, I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then applying impasto techniques layer on layer with a palette knife. I harness optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters, such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides and is signed on the side; a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang. For display purposes the painting has been photographed on a white background.
