Marcello Mancuso's universe moves within a system of invisible connections that explore the links between physical reality and the intangible reality of being. The most interesting and precious aspects of reality are elusive: personal identity, the perception of beauty and emotional dynamics are literally ungraspable and impossible to render by means of iconographic, representational painting. To catalogue inevitably exercises domination and restriction, which Mancuso's works seem to challenge.
It is not painting as representation, nor painting as a form of analytical inquiry, but painting as the expression of a metaphysical place where the image dissolves into space-light and colour becomes the seat of the All. Mancuso is an artist capable of looking into complexity and of seizing the essence in its totality, going beyond the ideal line that separates the object from the whole of which it is part.
