About Nicholas Robertson

Born in Gloucester, UK.

I suspect, like most figurative artists, I find drawing and painting the human form wholly embedded in human behaviour.

About this artwork

This Mannerist painting was inspired by the Shostakovich Symphony No. 7, which was composed during the siege of Leningrad (now St Petersburg) by the Nazis. The only access was via Lake Ladoga, and it depicts Russian soldiers on that iced lake.
