About Nicholas Robertson
Born Gloucester UK. I suspect like most figurative artists I find drawing and painting the human form wholly embedded with human behaviour. The desire to secure more than a representation of a persons movement, the spilling of light over contours or the various other physical facets is the reason we continue to make paintings. To liberate a recognisable small emotion in texture, colour and pattern and to make it still, perhaps this is a measure of a successful painting. I like to work in acrylic because it allows me to experiment, making changes quickly is paramount when wishing to explore your options.
About the Product
This work is that emotional expression you see in audiences, in this case a sports event, but it can be any group action. Its that look when your team has a near miss or a save, depending on the run of play. This anxiety reflex is over very quickly, so you have to fix the memory with a mental photograph and make the painting soon afterwards.
The rolled canvas board has a base wash of Burnt Orange pigment. The subject foundation consists of opaque pigments generally applied in colour blocks with subsequent layers of colour washes. The layering of the work with washes allows for subtle tonal attributes that give the work depth and intensity.
