Shapes of a Motorcyclist, 1974

This rolled canvas board had a previous image that I abandoned, so I put a coat of gesso over the canvas. The irregular texture left on the canvas interested me, so I painted Shapes of a Motorcyclist, an expressionist oil painting, with flat bold colours, modelled flesh and hands. I liked the combination of flat colours, some modelling and the irregular texture that resulted.
